ALTERNaTIVE.To.ADWORDS.GOOGLE.COM

You need to read this even if you've never been an
affiliate and never plan to be.

Affiliates always lead the way.

Affiliates are the canary in the coal mine for
both opportunities and trouble. Google's attitude
towards affiliates is an early warning about their
new trajectory.

ALL businesses need to take steps accordingly.

Not just affiliates.

Google pounded Yahoo/Overture into the ground 5
years ago precisely because Google's system gave
affiliates far more information and 'feedback
loops.'

So affiliates played a *major* role in lifting
Google AdWords to critical mass and made Google's
stock market IPO possible.

But Google doesn't 'need' affiliates anymore. I
invite you consider this from Jonathan Mizel:

If you're not an affiliate and you think "so
what," please consider this poem:

"In Germany they came first for the Communists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a
Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I
didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they
came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak
up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they
came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up
because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me,
and by that time no one was left to speak up."

--Martin Niemoeller, prominent German theologian
and Lutheran pastor

Google gets 90% of their business from a tiny
number of huge companies, so they don't have much
incentive to treat little guys with respect.

Whether you're an affiliate or not, Google is not
your mother. Google is not going to 'take care of
you.' You need to take care of yourself. If you
can take care of yourself then you escape
dependency. When you escape dependency, you make
tyranny impossible.
